Anytime something wonky like that happens, I just chalk it up to being a weird play.
In this case, perhaps the pitch was in the dirt and rolled about 10-15 feet from Grandal, the Catcher.
Rogers, the runner on third, assumed he could score.
He guessed wrong… as Grandal retrieved the ball and got back to the plate in time to make the tag on a close play.

This is kind of what I’m planning to do with some minor adjustments to the lineups. My question is how do I set up the games? As new games? I have been following the continuous regular season games as per the 1972 schedule but now that is done so just asking to ensure I can set up the playoff games correctly. Thanks

So I just set up a game and experimented with this a bit.
As has always been the case, the reliever appears to need two things to get the first-batter upgrade:

He must have a reliever * asterisk on his pitching grade (pitchers rated as starters-only don’t get upgraded). He must face a batter hitting from the same side (ie. lefty-on-lefty or righty-on-righty).
But you probably already knew that.

Also… the upgrade does NOT appear to happen if the half-inning hasn’t begun yet. I tried making a change between innings. All the criteria was there, but the reliever did not get an upgrade for the first batter of the inning.

But as long as the half-inning has started (ie. a batter has reached base or made an out), the upgrade now appears to work EVEN IF there are none out. I believe that may be different from in the past. The GO Support people may have recently tweaked the game engine on that.

It seems the players are there but sometimes the initial lineup shows a substitute player. I found that the as played guy is there on the team and I just put him
In the lineup.

I’ve experienced two no-hit shutouts but in both cases, the pitcher gave up 2 walks. In one of them, the pitcher went perfect for 8 innings and gave up 2 walks in the 9th. You know the old rule: don’t talk about it while it’s happening or you’ll jinx it. Well I realized what was happening in the bottom of the 9th…apparently, thinking about it will also jinx it.

Is this the Twilight Zone? I read his question four times and still can’t figure out what he asked that was not answered. Kayleigh, I think you did a great job of answering his question and I’d like to offer you an apology on behalf of Sludge. I’m not sure what quagmire he was dredged up from, but his name is certainly fitting.
Also, thank you Jeremy for your decisive reaction. I can only speak for myself, but we don’t need his kind of muck oozing around here clogging up the real reason we are here…to have fun and enjoy this great game.

I’ve been playing mostly solitaire since my newer subscription a few days ago. I’m not having any issues pulling the pitcher when his team’s in the field. I can hard press on his spot in the lineup and substitute for him. It’s when I am trying to pinch hit. I understand about the pitch and bat icons for sure. Would I be able to send you a screenshot of what happens?
