The first game of the 1934-1935 NHL Season opened in St. Louis for a contest between the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Eagles. St. Louis being the new home of the former Ottawa Senators who during the awful financial crisis has suffered financial hardships that have necessitated this move.
The game started with an early goal just fifty seconds into play. Gottselig would score his first of two goals on the night. Less than a minute Chicago would strike again and it would become apparent that success for St. Louis wasn’t as easy as packing a moving van. Lamb would score the lone goal for the Eagles and when all was said and done they would lose to Chicago 6-1.

Toronto jumped ahead to a an early lead in this contest. After two periods the score was 4-1 in the Maple Leafs favor. Cotton had a goal and Jackson had two. The Bruins would rally in the third period. Out shooting Toronto 18-4 in the final period the Bruins added two goals by Barry and a second goal from Clapper. Toronto got a short handed goal from Primeau to open the third period. With under a minute to play, Boston would fall just short in their comeback attempt when Clapper couldn’t play the puck with the extra man on the ice due to the pulling of the goalie. Toronto wins a thriller 5-4.
