Midway results for my GO Pre-Expansion BATS Tournament
-
I purchased the BATS3 Pre-Expansion set in June and am playing a 56-game season. Love the set. I am currently 30 games in. No DH’s. Four-man starting rotations. Three top teams will make the playoffs in each league.
#2 will then play #3 in opening-round best-of-three’s, with the victors to meet the pennant winners in their best-of-five.
Two league champs will then square off in a best-of-seven World Series. Here’s how things are shaping up so far:

I have just completed the regular season in my BATS Pre-Expansion league tournament on APBA GO.
The Yankees and Cardinals won their divisions and will now each get a bye into their respective League Championship Series.
The 2-vs-3 series will be best-of-three’s. The LCS will be best-of-five’s. The World Series will be a best-of-seven.In the AL, the Yankees and White Sox battled right down to the wire for top spot. New York took the division based on their 6-and-2 record against Chicago in their eight head-to-head matchups. But needing a win in their 56th and final game, the Yanks rallied from a 4-0 deficit in St. Louis, scoring six times in the top of the ninth to stun the Browns 6-4.
After watching that drama unfold on the out-of-town scoreboard, the deflated White Sox went out and lost 6-5 in Washington, giving the Senators the third and final playoff berth in the AL.Final regular-season standings and leaders after 56 games. (Four-man rotations, no DH’s, top three made the playoffs in each league.)

Very nice. You played it solitare? Autoplay? Looks like a nice league. I am starting a league might go 12 teams 2 divisions of 6. Not sure how many games I should play. Right now I am set at 20 games but thinking might not be enough, also do not want to over do it either.
Anything you’d do different? -
No autoplay. Roll all the games myself. Solitaire, but I manage both teams to make the best moves to win. Keep all the stats in Collections, one folder for the AL and one for the NL.
This has been great. Of the 448 regular season games, only three (the last three of a final series between the Reds and Cubs) had nothing on the line. It took me eleven months, playing (on average) four games every three days. There’s really nothing I would do any different. Very enjoyable.
For 12 teams, I’m thinking a 32-game season might be a good length. (4 games vs each division opponent = 20 games. 2 games vs each non-division opponent = 12 games. That makes for a nice, balanced tournament.). I would definitely recommend having two or three teams make the playoffs in each division though. That helps keep things more exciting right to the end.
With a post-season, that would be approx 215 games max… which is a nice length. I suppose a lot depends on how often you get to play. I knock off most games in about 30 minutes, so it’s pretty easy for me to squeeze in a game a day.
Good luck!(Edited to add:) Another cool option is just have a short double- or triple-elimination tournament. Those are always quick and fun. And every game is important. A triple-elim tourney for 12 teams would last approx 35 games…
