Injured Players in Autoplay Games
-
I play quite a few GO solitaire games using Autoplay. It’s a great way to get through a tournament or season quicker. But I have noticed that injuries NEVER seem to occur in my Autoplay games, even though I always enable the injuries option.
So I was surprised today, when I checked the boxscore of a Reds-Cubs’ Pre-Expansion BATS game and noticed that Ernie Banks had been injured and replaced by Johnny Kling at Shortstop…
When I went back into the Play-by-Play to see how the injury happened, here is the description I found…
Cincinnati CIN rolls a 3 and 5
It’s a 39 on Roy McMILLAN’s card.
Using Fielding 1
Result: SINGLE; beats out infield hit and spikes firstbaseman who is out next 4 games; runners advance 1 base
Roy McMILLAN pops out to Ernie BANKS. Lonny FREY scores and Grady HATTON goes to third as Ernie BANKS and Riggs STEPHENSON collide and are hurting. Ernie BANKS must leave the game, but Riggs STEPHENSON will continue.
1 run scores.
Lineup Change: Johnny KLING for Ernie BANKS
AI EXECUTED: THREW PITCHThe play had occurred with runners on second and third. Fielding One. Compared it to my © 2013 APBA board game booklet. Sure enough, a PRN result of 39 sees a collision between the SS and the LF… and the SS has to leave the game.
But I’m confused by the play description right before it, showing an infield single where the 1B (the Cubs’ Phil Cavarretta in this case) is injured for four games after being spiked. This is actually PRN #37 in my APBA booklet.
Fortunately, Cavarretta was not injured in my game, nor should he have been. But I can’t help but wonder if there are some similar description glitches in the game engine, in regards to recognizing/enabling injuries during Autoplay.
For what it’s worth, I always click ‘OFF’ on the ‘Disable Injuries’ option.
