1901 Pirates Replay (using collections)
-
I will be replaying the 1901 Pirates as close to “as played” as possible. I will be using Retrosheet to base my lineups on. As the season goes on, I may take liberty to move players around as far as the batting order. Whenever a player is not available, I will substitute another player at that position.

I will actually restart this replay as I have used the custom teams feature to create a team that features all but 4 of the 1901 Pirates according to Baseball Reference. It’s a good thing I thought of this after just 1 game! Here are the 4 that I will have to have replacements for (games played/started):
Lew Carr (9/8)
Truck Eagan (4/3)
Jud Smith (6/6)
Terry Turner (2/2) -
Reds Blast Pirates 6-0 in Opener
The Reds jumped on the Pirates early, scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning. The Pirates only managed 4 hits on the day and Honus Wagner left the game after a collision in the outfield.
Pirates 0-1 -
Cardinals 5 Pirates 2
The Pirates fall to 0-2 on the young season and manage only 5 hits in losing at St. Louis. Here’s hoping for better days for the lads. : ) -
Pirate Bats Come Alive, Trounce Cards 10-1
Pittsburgh is 1-2 on the year. Wagner goes 4-5 with 4 RBI. Phillippe throws 9 innings and gives up 0 earned runs while going 3-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
