1987R to be released. Do current owners of 1987 have to purchase again?

Unfortunately, we have in the past. I have the same issue with the 1984 set I already own being obsolete.

@mariner No, I still have the old 1984. But if I were to play in a league, anyone with the subscription or who bought the R set would have an advantage (and the 12 is in a different place on the card – along with the extra cards that are added and the changes made since the formulas for making the cards has usually been altered). In a few leagues where this has happened the commissioner has insisted on everyone using the R sets, especially since trading would be difficult to do if everyone was not using the same edition. I know one player who took multiple hits as he had purchased several seasons ahead and watched as more than one R set was released on him. In the past, I have questioned why we don’t get an automatic upgrade and the answer was that the R sets are considered “new” releases, not upgrades.
