Monday, June 10 Highlights:
Baltimore jumps out to a 4-0 lead thanks to homers by John Orsino and Boog Powell, and survives a late rally by Cleveland for a 4-2 victory. Al Luplow homered in the loss for the Tribe.
A wild game in Detroit saw the Red Sox prevail over the Tigers in 10 innings by a score of 10-9. Dick Stuart homered twice for the Red Sox, and Al Kaline accomplished the same feat for the Tigers.
Houston scored twice in the first inning against the Cubs, but it was all Chicago after that as the Cubs won by a score of 7-2. Ernie Banks hit his 11th homer of the year in the win for Chicago.
Kansas City grabbed a 1-0 lead on the Angels in the first inning, and Los Angeles scored the next 8 runs of the game for an 8-1 win. Dan Osinski (3-3, 5.02) got the win with the loss being charged to Orlando Pena (2-6, 4.93).
In Los Angeles, the Dodgers took a 3-1 lead into the 9th inning, but the Giants scored 3 times to grab a 4-3 lead. The Dodgers tied the game up in the bottom of the 9th against Bobby Bolin, and Ron Fairly’s RBI single scored Maury Wills with the decisive run in a 5-4 victory. The win pulled Los Angeles to within one game of the idle Cardinals in the National League race.
Home runs by Leo Cardenas and Pete Rose propelled the Reds to a 5-2 victory over the New York Mets. Chico Fernandez homered in the loss for New York. Joey Jay (6-3, 3.81) got the win with Tracy Stallard (0-2, 5.02) taking the loss.
It took 13 innings to settle matters between the Braves and Phillies in Philadelphia on Monday. Jim Lemon’s 2-run homer off Denny LeMaster was the decisive blow in an 8-6 Phillies win.
The Yankees scored 5 times in the top of the 10th inning to defeat the Senators by a score of 7-2. Hector Lopez, Tom Thresh and Elston Howard all homered for New York.
In the second game of a doubleheader, all of the runs were scored in the 3rd inning as the Yankees defeated the Senators by a score of 4-1. Tom Thresh homered once again, as he continues to help fill the void left by an injured Mickey Mantle. The Yankess are now 7 games over .500 and trail the first place Twins by 5 1/2 games.

In Baltimore, the Orioles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a leadoff homer by Luis Aparicio, but watched the Indians hammer their way to a 9-1 victory. Joe Azcue belted 2 homers for the Tribe, Max Alvis and Al Luplow each hit one.In a matchup of the top 2 teams in the American League, the White Sox built a 7-0 lead and held on for a 7-2 victory over the Twins. Ray Herbert got the win for Chicago with Dick Stigman taking the loss for Minnesota. Earl Battey, Jim Landis and Pete Ward all went deep.
In Detroit, the Tigers rode a 4-run second inning to a 5-4 victory over the visitors from Boston. Lou Clinton, Norm Cash and Dick McAuliffe all homered. Jim Bunning earned the win with Terry Fox getting a save. Wilbur Wood took the loss for Boston.
Dick Bertell put the Cubs ahead by a 2-1 score with a solo homer in the 13th inning, but the Colt 45s rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to win by a score of 3-2. Ernie Fazio scored the winning run on Brock Davis’ double. Hal Woodeshick got the win with Don Elston taking the loss.
Jay Hankins hit his first homer of the season to lead the A’s to a 4-1 victory over the Angels. Diego Segui got the win with Dean Chance taking the loss.
Don Drysdale outdueled Juan Marichal as the Dodgers defeated the Giants by a score of 3-0. Ron Fairly homered for Los Angeles.
In the Big Apple, the Reds doubled up the Mets by a score of 6-3. Johnny Edwards and Vada Pinson homered for the visitors. Jim Hickman went deep for the Mets. Jim Maloney earned the victory with the loss being charged to Al Jackson.
Henry Aaron’s solo homer in the 8th inning provided the winning margin in a 3-2 victory by the Braves over the Phillies. Dan Schneider got the win with the loss being charged to Cal McLish.
Bob Gibson went the distance as the Cardinals handed the Pirates a 6-1 loss. Charlie James and Bill Mazeroski homered. Don Schwall took the loss for Pittsburgh.

Wednesday, June 12 Scoreboard:
It was a fantastic pitcher’s duel in Beantown as the Red Sox drop the Senators by a score of 1-0 in 10 innings as Carl Yastrzemski leads off the bottom of the 10th inning with his 6th homer of the season. Dave Stenhouse and Bill Monbouquette each went the distance, with Stenhouse being charged with the loss.
On the south side of Chicago, the White Sox took both ends of a doubleheader from the visitors from Los Angeles. John Buzhardt got the win in the opener with Don Lee taking the loss in a 3-1 game. Game 2 went 11 innings with Camilo Carreon’s RBI single breaking a 2-2 tie, and delivering the Sox a 3-2 victory. Dave DeBusschere got the win in game 2 with the loss going to Mel Nelson.
Home Runs by Frank Robinson and Johnny Edwards propelled the Reds to a 6-2 victory over the Pirates. Donn Clendenon homered in the loss for the visitors. Jim O’Toole got the win with John Tsitouris earning the save. Earl Francis took the loss for Pittsburgh.
Dick Donovan and the Cleveland Indians blanked the Detroit Tigers by a score of 3-0. Hank Aguirre took the loss for Detroit. Al Luplow went 3 for 4 for Cleveland.
In Los Angeles, the Dodgers built an early 4-0 lead against Don Nottebart and the Colt 45s and held on for a 4-2 victory. Johnny Roseboro homered for the Dodgers and Johnny Podres got the win with Ron Perranoski earning his 7th save of the year.
The Twins kept pace with the White Sox by taking 2 games from the Athletics. Jim Kaat went the distance in game 1 as the Twins prevailed by a score of 6-1. Lenny Green went deep for the Twins in game 1. Game 2 saw Camili Pascual out-duel Orlando Pena as the Twins prevailed by a score of 4-3. Bill Dailey earned his 5th save of the season.
In Milwaukee, Lew Burdette held the Mets to 2 hits as the Braves won by a score of 3-0. Tommie Aaron provided all the offense for the game with a 3-run homer in the 4th inning off Galen Cisco.
In New York, the Orioles defeated the Yankees by a score of 1-0. Luis Aparicio drove in the game’s only run with an RBI single in the 6th inning off Ralph Terry. The Yankees had a rally cooking in the 4th inning with 2 runners on and nobody out, but Joe Pepitone lined out to Jerry Adair who stepped on second to put out Elston Howard, and then fired to first to complete the triple play and end the inning. Dave McNally limited the Yankees to 3 hits in earning the victory.
Bobby Bolin went the distance and struck out 11 in his second start of the season as the Giants defeated the Cubs by a score of 3-1. Bob Buhl took the loss for Chicago.
In St. Louis, the Phillies jumped out to a 5-0 lead, knocking Ron Taylor from the game, but had to withstand a rally by the home team to hold on for a 5-4 victory. Art Mahaffey got the win with Jack Baldschun earning his 3rd save of the season.

Thursday, June 13 Highlights:
Boston and Washington split a double-header, with the Senators taking game 1 by a score of 6-3 and the Red Sox winning 2-1 in game 2. Boston held a 3-2 lead in the 9th inning of game 1, but the Senators rallied with 4 runs in the top of the inning. Chuck Hinton hit his 9th homer of the season for Washington. Game 2 was tied at 1 until Dick Stuart singled home Frank Malzone with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
The Pirates took a 9-2 lead to the bottom of the 9th inning, but the Reds did not go quietly into that good night, scoring 5 times off Roy Face before he finally shut the door on a 9-7 victory. Smokey Burgess hit his 4th homer of the season for the Pirates.
In Detroit, the Tigers survived a 9th inning rally as the Indians scored 4 times in the top of the 8th. Bob Anderson was able to finish off the tribe with a 7-6 lead intact. Max Alvis hit his 5th homer of the season in the loss for Cleveland.
Sandy Koufax went the distance and Ron Fairly hit his 4th homer as the Dodgers knocked off the Colt 45s by a score of 9-2. Koufax improved to 6-4 on the season, with a 2.36 ERA. With 12 strikeouts, Koufax leads the majors with 126 on the season.
In Minnesota, Harmon Killebrew singled home Vic Power with two outs in the 7th inning to break a 2-all tie and lift the Twins to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Athletics. Jim Perry improved to 5-1 on the season for the Twins.
Jerry Adair’s 4th homer of the year gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead in the 8th inning at Yankee Stadium, but a Tom Thresh double tied the game back up in the bottom of the 8th and Roger Maris’ 9th homer delivered a 3-2 victory in the bottom of the 9th inning.
In San Francisco, the Cubs edged the Giants by a score of 4-3. Dick Ellsworth improved to 6-5 on the season and dropped his ERA to 1.78 on the season. Lindy McDaniel recorded the final 6 outs for his 6th save. Billy Williams homered for the 8th time for Chicago.
In St. Louis, Ernie Broglio shut the Phillies out on 4 hits, improving his record to 8-2 and trimming his ERA to 2.13. Charlie James went 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs for the Cardinals.

The Red Sox score 3 times in the first inning and Earl Wilson goes the distance as Boston defeats Baltimore by a score of 4-0. Frank Malzone (9) homered for Boston and Wilson improved to 2-6 on the season and lowered his ERA to 4.81.
Gary Peters won his 5th game of the season against 2 losses as the White Sox knocked off the A’s by a score of 4-2. Ed Charles (5) homered in the loss for Kansas City. Jim Brosnan earned his 4th save of the year for Chicago who remain one game behind the Twins.
Frank Robinson launched his 11th homer of the season as the Reds defeated the Mets by a score of 5-3. Bob Purkey (4-3, 2.70) got the win with Joey Jay earning his first save of the year.
Woodie Held singled home Willie Kirkland and Max Alvis in the bottom of the 9th inning as the Indians walked off the Senators by a score of 3-2 in game 1 of a doubleheader. Jim Coates (1-3, 5.79) was charged with the loss. Jerry Walker (2-2, 5.47) got the win for Cleveland.
In game 2, Claude Osteen (5-4, 2.13) went the distance, and held the Tribe to just 3 hits as the Senators won by a score of 4-0. Hobie Landrith homered for the first time this season for Washington.
The Dodgers tied the game at 3 apiece with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning and went on to prevail by a score of 6-5 in 11 innings. The winning run scored when Jim Brewer (1-3, 5.50) balked home Jim Gilliam. Dick Calmus (2-0, 0.00) earned the win for Los Angeles.

The Cardinals fell a game behind the first-place Dodgers after the Pirates defeated them by a score of 7-2. Jerry Lynch (2) homered for the Pirates. Bob Friend (8-3, 2.42) got the win with Al McBean (2) getting the save. Ray Washburn (7-2, 2.59) took the loss for St. Louis.

The White Sox score a run int he first inning, and Ray Herbert holds the A’s scoreless for 8 innings, but a home run by pinch-hitter George Alusik in the 9th inning ties the game at 1, and an RBI Double by Jerry Lumpe later in the inning gives Kansas City a 2-1 lead. Diego Segui (5-1, 1.90) went the distance for the A’s, including a three up, three down 9th inning against the top of the Sox batting order. Herbert dropped to 7- 5 on the season. The loss dropped the Sox to one game behind the Twins in the AL Standings.
The Mets scored 4 times in the 6th inning on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Reds. Tracy Stallard (1-2, 4.18) went the distance, limiting the Reds to just 6 hits. Joey Jay lasted just 5 2/3 innings and dropped to 6-4 on the season. Frank Thomas hit his 3rd homer of the season for New York. Gordy Coleman reached double digits with a solo shot for Cincinatti.
Washington overcame hitting into a triple play in the 6th inning and knocked off the Indians by a score of 8-6. Don Lock (7) and Ed Brinkman (5) homered for the Senators. Joe Azcue and Fred Whitfield each hit their 4th homers of the season for Cleveland. Ron Kline (7) earned the save in support of Jim Coates (2-3, 6.40). Ted Abernathy took the loss for the Indians (0-1, 3.37).
In Los Angeles, today’s game featured a fantastic pitcher’s duel between Larry Jackson (7-4, 2.66) and Don Drysdale (8-6, 2.85). Each hurler went the distance, and the teams combined for only 1 run on 7 hits. The only run of the game came in the 6th inning when Billy Williams doubled in Don Landrum, and the Cubs prevailed by a score of 1-0. The Dodgers remain in first place, but their lead is only a half game against the idle Cardinals.
In Minnesota, the Twins ride a 5-run 4th inning all the way to a 6-4 win over the Angels. Rich Rollins (8) and Bernie Allen (2) homered for Minnesota. Bill Pleis (3) saved the game for Garry Roggenburk (1-2, 5.06). Ken McBride (7-6, 3.06) took the loss for Los Angeles. The Twins hold a 1-game lead over the White Sox.

In San Francisco, the Giants took a 2-1 lead into the 9th inning but the Colt 45s scored once in the top of the 9th to tie, and then plated a pair in the top of the 10th for a 4-2 victory. Hal Woodeshick (3) earned a save with the win going to Don McMahon (1-0, 2.74). Bill O’Dell (7-5, 3.59) was charged with the loss in relief of Juan Marichal. Brock Davis (2) homered for Houston. Orlando Cepeda (17) and WIllie Mays (20) went deep for the Giants in defeat.

The Red Sox swept their twin-bill against the Orioles. Game 1 saw Boston jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against Ivan Delock (0-1, 3.68) and hold on for a 3-1 win behind Bill Monbouquette (8-4, 1.67) and Dick Radatz (5th Save). Bob Johnson (2) accounted for the lone Baltimore run with a home run.
The Sox trailed the Orioles by a score of 3-2 after 6 innings in game two. A three-run rally by the Sox in the 7th turned that into a 5-3 victory. Boston got homers from Lou Clinton (5), Frank Malzone (6), Dick Stuart (19) and Gary Geiger (4) in the win. Dave Morehead (6-2, 2.95) got the win with Jack Lamabe (4) earning a save. Stu Miller (2-2, 2.58) took the loss for Baltimore.
In Chicago, the White Sox scored 3 times in the bottom of the 9th inning to force extra innings, but it was the Athletics that prevailed with 2 runs in the top of the 10th inning. Ed Charles (7) and George Alusik (7) homered for Kansas City. John Wyatt earned his first save in support of BIll Fischer (2-2, 3.19). Dave DeBusshere (2-1, 2.65) took the loss for Chicago.
In game 2, Jim Landis (10, 11) homered twice as the Sox prevailed by a score of 4-3. Dave Nicholson (8) also homered for Chicago while Norm Siebern (10) went deep for Kansas City. Hoyt Wilhelm (3-2, 3.00) earned the victory while Ted Bowsfield (6-5, 5.15) was charged with the loss.
In Cincinnati, Charlie Neal opened the game with a walk off Jim Maloney, but Maloney retired the next 27 batters in succession for his second no-hitter of the season. Maloney (8-7, 2.22) fanned 13 New York batters on the day. The Reds scored twice in the 1st and five times in the 5th to provide more than enough offense to support Maloney.
In Game two, the Mets celebrated seeing pitches from someone other than Maloney and knocked off the Reds by a score of 8-4. Norm Sherry (3) and Cliff Cook (1) homered for New York. Roger Craig (6-8, 2.92) earned the win with the loss being charged to Jim O’Toole (8-3, 2.34).
In Cleveland, the Indians swept a pair from the Senators by scores of 5 to 1 and 5 to 0. Mudcat Grant (4-6, 4.30) earned the victory in game 1 over Dave Stenhouse (2-9, 4.77). Dick Donovan (5-5, 2.63) shut out Washington on just 3 hits in game 2 as Don Rudolph (3-6, 4.29) took the loss. Donovan supported his own cause with a home run, his first of the season.
In Los Angeles, the Cubs and Dodgers split their doubleheader. In game 1, the Dodgers tied the game in the bottom of the 8th inning, and neither team would score again until the Cubs pushed 2 runs across in the top of the 13th inning. Los Angeles scored a run in the bottom of the 13th, but came up short with the Cubs prevailing 4-3. Tommy Davis (6,7) homered twice in a losing cause. Andre Rodgers (3) homered for the Cubs. Barney Schultz (1-0, 2.77) got the win with Larry Sherry (0-4, 5.58) taking the loss.
Game 2 went to extra innings as well, with the score tied at 3-3. Chicago scored a pair of runs in the 10th, but the Dodgers stormed back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th to salvage a split. Dick Scott (1-0, 10.5) earned the win for Los Angeles with Lindy McDaniel (0-3, 3.00) taking the loss for the Cubs. Ron Santo (16) and Wally Moon (3) homered.
In Minnesota, the Angels scored 4 times in the 3rd inning to propel themselves to a 7-3 victory over the Twins. Hank Foiles smacked his first homer of the season for Los Angeles. Julio Navarro (2) earned the save to back up Dean Chance (3-6, 3.15). Jim Kaat (8-3, 3.02) took the loss for Minnesota and Rich Rollins (9) homered for the Twins.

In Milwaukee, the Phillies sweep the doubleheader from the Braves. Cal McLish (7-5, 1.82) shut out Milwaukee on 4 hits in the first game as Philadelphia cruised to a 9-0 victory. Bob Hendley (5-4, 3.86) took the loss for the Braves. Roy Sievers (4) homered for the visitors.
In game 2, Sievers (5) homered again, as did Johnny Callison (7) as the Phillies prevailed by a score of 6-5. Philadelphia pushed 2 runs across in the top of the 9th inning to secure the win. Frank Funk (1-2, 3.18) took the loss for Milwaukee. Denis Menke (5) homered in the loss for the Braves. John Klippstein (4-2, 2.03) earned the win for the Phillies.
In the Bronx, the Yankees won both games against the visiting Tigers by scores of 7-6 and 4-1. In the second game, Gaylord Perry (3-1, 2.43) earned the win with the save going to Jack Sanford (2). Ken Johnson (3-6, 2.44) took the loss for the Colt 45s in the 3-2 San Francisco win.
In St. Louis, the Cardinals took both games from the Pirates by identical 7-2 scores. Carl Sawatski (6), Ken Boyer (14) and Bob Gibson (1) all homered for the Cardinals in game 1. Gibson (8-2, 2.09) got the win over Don Schwall (3-7, 5.91).
