The 1947 Yankees split another six game series, this one with the 1953 Yankees. The '53 Yankees reached the halfway point to their season with a 47-31 record while the '47 Yankees are 64-62.
The '47 Yankees won Game One 6-5 despite heroics from Yogi Berra who hit two home runs for the '53 Yankees including a tying two-run dinger in the 8th. The '47 Yankees walked it off in the 9th thanks to back-to-back doubles by George McQuinn and Joe Dimaggio. The '53 Yankees evened the series with a 5-4 win in Game Two. The '47 Yankees won an epic Game Three 8-7 in 11 innings, a game that was tied are changed leads EIGHT times. The '47 Yankees led 4-3 in the 9th until Don Bollweg tied the game off closer Joe Page with a RBI single. Bollweg then hit a two run homer in the 11th as part of a three run inning to give them a 7-4 lead. The '47 Yankees roared back with two outs in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single by Snuffy Stirnweiss, a walk to McQuinn, and a walk-off three run Dimaggio dagger for the win. The '47 Yankees overturned another late lead in Game Four. Down 6-3 in the 9th, Billy Johnson tied the game with a three-run homer. Then Hank Bauer’s two base error on a Johnny Lindell single put Lindell in position to score on a Phil Rizzuto sac fly for a 7-6 win. The '53 Yankees bounced back in Game Five with a 9-5 win, overcoming an early 4-0 deficit. Berra helped the '53 Yankees earn the six game split with an 8th inning two-run homer to break a 3-3 tie and give them a 5-3 win.
Gene Woodling leads the '53 Yankees in hitting at .341 with 55 RBI, 61 runs scored, and a .975 OPS. Bauer is hitting .329 with 16 home runs, 55 RBI, 67 runs scored, and a .946 OPS. Mickey Mantle is hitting .314 with 24 home runs, 72 RBI, 68 runs scored, and a .987 OPS. Berra is hitting .252 with 16 home runs, 69 RBI, and 53 runs scored. Vic Raschi picked up a win to improve is record to 9-4 with a 2.88 ERA.
Dimaggio raised his average to .306 and had eight RBI in the series to give him 105 with 22 home runs. McQuinn now has 90 runs scored to go with a .282 average. The '47 Yankees will battle with the 47-37 1951 Yankees in the next series.
