The '27 Yankees won Game One 5-2 in 11 innings. The '78 Yankees had a chance to put the game away in the bottom of the 10th until Chris Chambliss lined out into a double play with a runner on second. Pat Collins broke the tie in the top of the 11th with a homer; Babe Ruth added his second home run of the game in a three run rally to put the game away for good. After losing Game Two 8-3, the '78 Yankees picked up their first win in Game Three 11-6. Thurman Munson went 3-5 with five RBI. Lou Gehrig led the '27 Yankees to win two of the final three games; he went 3-4 with a double, HR, and three RBI in a 5-2 win in Game Four and 3-4 with a double, HR, two RBI, and two runs scored in a 5-2 win in the final game.
Earle Combs leads the '27 Yankees in hitting at .363 with 11 stolen bases and 63 runs scored. Gehrig hit .435 in the series with two homers and six RBI to raise his average to .358 with 22 home runs, 81 RBI, 79 runs scored, and a 1.196 OPS. Ruth now has 33 home runs in just 72 games with 87 RBI and 89 runs scored while hitting .352 with a 1.310 OPS. Waite Hoyt (12-3, 2.51 ERA) is the only starter with an ERA below 4.

George Pipgras pitched a two-hit shutout in Game One for a 8-0 win. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Bob Meusel homered back-to-back-to back in a four run 5th inning for a 7-1 win in Game Two. After losing 8-3 in Game Three, the '52 Yankees won Game Four 10-3. Joe Collins went 3-5 with four RBI. They scored seven runs in the 1st. inning of Game Five and cruised to a 12-5 win. It looked like Pipgras would suffer his first loss, as the '28 Yankees trailed 3-2 in the 9th. But Ruth homered to tie the game. The defense let them down in the bottom of the inning as they committed back to back errors with two outs, leading to a walk-off single by Yogi Berra for the win.
