Malcolm at it again

He’s subbing pitchers for injured or ejected players.
Also I’ve seen the 40 result with a runner on second about 5 times in my last 5 games. The result isn’t a tag play fielders choice at third…a result I’m confident I’ve never seen in the mlb or any league above 12 yo. Just sayin

The more I look at these posts, I am wondering if GO is a house of cards…

@anluc7 Subbing pitchers and pinch hitting with the worst player are two of the most egregious flaws and should be relatively easy to program out.
Why are there no periodic updates to this?
Or even a response?

Malcolm plays like it’s the final game of the World Series, so the pitchers he picks tend to be in line with that scenario. In other words, nothing is wrong with Malcolm in that regard - it is as intended. Does that mean he’s the best MM for regular season play or all scenarios? Of course not.
Pinch hitting selection is based on an algorithm that could be improved.
‘Easy to program out’ is a relative term. It’s like shooting a barking dog to keep it quiet. It would do the job, but it would not be the best way to go about it, especially for the dog. The trick is to do the work in a way that is best for the project.
Why are there no periodic updates to this?
We have more important things to do.
The project stakeholders and technical demands determine priority of work. My team does what it’s told, and/or what it has to do. Fixing Malcolm is not a priority, yet.
Or even a response?
Easy… I’m tired of repeating myself. A simple forum search would reveal previous explanations of how Malcolm is intended to work, and there is also the description of Malcolm on the site itself. No conspiracy required.
Thanks,

Thanks - apologies if I sounded like a jerk. Not intended. Really appreciate your efforts, the whole game and pulling back the curtain to share the details. Thanks again!

@APBA-GO-Jeremy my complaint was not that he uses the best available pitcher to pitch. Malcolm is replacing injured fielders with pitchers when other fielders are available. Sorry if it wasn’t clear
-
@anluc7 It’s a very simple selection algorithm, simple as in not very sophisticated at all.
Something about those pitchers’ statistics fit the selection algorithm… likely some kind of fielding stat.
The algorithm probably looks at the fielding stat and not typical position.
And why is that? I think the last time I asked about it, the answer I got was that if you go far back enough in history that behavior was not as unusual as it is today. The algorithm was designed to fit every scenario and that’s that.
I’m not making a defense as to why it is ok, just explaining the thought process that possibly took place seven(?) or so years ago when Malcolm was created.
I like to think I would have done things differently, but I wasn’t there. :)
