1953 Dodgers vs GTOP1 Dodgers.
-
I own the '53 Dodgers as part of the GTOP1 set. Just wondering, are there any differences between the GTOP1 version of the Dodgers and the Dodgers from the regular '53 season set?
Yeah, I know…I could just buy the '53 Dodgers for $3, and check for myself.
But if they are the same as the GTOP version, then I just spent 3 bucks on a duplicate team. Thanks in advance.

@alecotto75 Hi,
I’m pretty sure the last time I spoke to John about this, the answer was that they should be the same.
The only discrepancies, if I remember correctly, can occur if one season file sees a correction of some sort, but the second doesn’t.
So it’s possible that there are minor differences between the two files that should, theoretically, one day be corrected.
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. So it doesn’t sound like they juice up the teams for the GTOP sets. That’s essentially what I wanted to know.

@alecotto75 For what it’s worth, my son owns the entire 1954 APBA GO season… while I own the '54 Indians (GTOP2) and the '54 Giants (GTOP3).
A quick comparison of the teams suggests to me they are exactly the same. -
I went ahead and purchased the 1953 Dodgers to compare to the GTOP1 version. There are indeed differences between the 2 sets.
Billy Loes has a “Z” in the 1953 set, which the GTOP version does not.
Russ Meyer has a “Z” in the 1953 set, which the GTOP version does not.
Johnny Podres’ grade is one letter higher in the GTOP set than in the 1953 version.
Bob Milliken has a split grade in the GTOP version. In the 1953 version, he has a straight grade.
The GTOP version includes 3 more pitchers on the Brooklyn roster than the 1953 version does.
I’ve only checked one hitting card so far, but Jackie Robinson’s play result numbers are slightly different between the 2 sets, so it’s not just the pitching grades that differ.

@alecotto75 the response from Alpharetta: “The first three GTOP sets are not the same as the teams in the regular season set.”

That’s good enough for me as far as gtop vs regular set goes. Thanks for following up on that.
