Injuries

I was playing a game last night and Hank Aaron hit into a fc with Oscar Brown, ph for the pitcher, being forced at 2nd, but also being injured. Brown was no longer on base, but the game wouldn’t let me continue until I had replaced him. I did so with the reliever I was going to use next. Lo and behold, the Braves batted around and the relief pitcher came to bat. I couldn’t very well burn the reliever, so I had to bat him and like most relievers who don’t bat often, he made an out. Is there some way around this? If not, it needs to be addressed, I think.

I have run into this problem before. One trick I learned is to use a starting pitcher or other player who would not usually be put into the game, as a “place holder” for the spot. That way you can put in another player when the time comes and it doesn’t cost you a player you might want to use later on in the game. Works great for later-season or revised-season teams where APBAGo gives you all the J-4 types and D pitchers who played that season. A little trickier if using a team with only limited bench and bullpen, hence my use of a pitcher from the rotation. The collections don’t count it as a game pitched either if that is a concern in a league or tournament.

@hoffridge Hey! How are you? Not sure how you’re doing in Dev’s tournament, but I’m doubly eliminated already, nothing new. Thanks for your reply. In playing that game, I never, ever thought the Braves would bat around so it didn’t dawn on me to put in anyone other than the reliever who was going to start the next inning. I guess I need to pay more attention! But your suggestion is a good one. Thanks. Stay safe and healthy.

Yes, I do the same as HOFfridge in those situations. Temporarily inserting a D-W pitcher works great. Then, at the end of the half-inning, you can re-assess your lineup without having burned a valuable player.
