Odd quirk in statistics
-
I played a game involving the 1883 Phillies/Quakers in a Phillies rolling King of the Hill tournament I’m running. The starter, John Coleman, was getting shelled by the '55 Phils, so in keeping with the strict substitution rules of the 1880s I moved him to the outfield (where he played on days he didn’t pitch), brought in 3B Purcell to pitch (he had the 2nd most appearances of players who were carded with the Phils), and move Harbidge from OF to 3B (which he played occasionally). At the end of the game the boxscore showed he had pitched 4.1 innings and was relieved by Purcell who tossed 3.2. However, when I checked the statistics for the collection he had been credited with a CG (he showed 12 CG in 12 starts, so it was easy to pick up). Probably the fact that he was still on the field at the end of the game fooled the stat compiler. It’s a very minor issue that won’t come up very often if at all, but it was an interesting quirk. (I did submit a support ticket just to let them know.)
