Closing off the 1 team replay that I completed with the 1938 Chicago Cubs, the only thing left was the 1938 World Series that the Cubs played against the New York Yankees. The Yankees swept that series. In my replay, I did 1 game better. Yankee starters Ruffing and Gomez started and won all 4 of their games allowing only 5 runs. Tommy Henrich was the hitting star of the Yankees going 6 for 20, 2 doubles, triple, 2 home runs and 7 rbis. His pair of 2 run homers in game 4 produced all of the Yankee runs. Cubs scored only 8 runs in the series 4 of which came on solo homers by Joe Marty (2), Gabby Hartnett, and Rip Collins.
Both teams had best team defense and used A starters in 4 of the 5 games. Although the 1937 Yankees are considered to have been a better team, the 1938 team is very very strong and even without strong contributions from Gehrig and DiMaggio, the Yankees ended up winning easily.
