The 1912 Red Sox start out 6-0 with a 2nd sweep… this time over the 1909 Tigers. Tris Speaker is leading the way on offense with an OPS over 1000 while the Smoky Joe Wood and Tom O’Brien have 2 complete game wins each

Boston hangs onto 1st place after a gutty performance by ace Smoky Joe Wood. Wood did not have his best stuff, but managed to strand 10 Cubs on base to lead the Red Sox to the 3-1 won to salvage the 3rd game of the series. Frank Chance continued his herculean start, with his 3rd home run (matching his 1906 total in 9 games). The Peerless Leader has 7 extra base hits total in 9 games and has score 11 runs and knocked in 6.

Tough Series for the Senators… they score just one run in a sweep by Connie Mack’s Athletics. That 1 may have been enough for Walter Johnson, but the defense let him down with 5 errors that lead to the 2-1 loss against A’s ace Jack Coombs.

The Cubs took 2 of 3 from John McGraw’s Giants in a wild series that included alot of offense. Game 2 feature a 6 run 5th for Chicago, and McGraw himself lead his team to clear the bench when John Meyers and Fred Snodgrass were hit by consecutive pitches.

The game almost had to be called when (one suspects) McGraw ordered Frank Schulte hit the next inning, but the police were able to restore order.

Cubs backup Catcher Pat Moran may be a back up no more with 4 Extra Base hits in the series. On the Giants side Tillie Schafer spelled both Art Fletcher and Buck Herzog (who combined are hitting well under .200) and contributed a game winning triple in the final game to prevent the Cubs sweep.

Finished the 4th round or series… The Cubs, As and Red Sox stand at the top of the standings together at 8-4.
The last game of the cycle saw Cleveland bang out 20 hits in defeat, losing 7-6 to Washington in 12 innings.

Cleveland’s Jack Graney has been the undisputed star of the 1st quarter of the season… leading the lead with 21 hits, 8 for extra bases, and a .438 average.

The league batting average stands at .216 (and heading up) while the league ERA is 2.36… which is a little extra low due to some of the early stat issues with tracking earned runs. It should mostly balance out by the end though!

It took 45 innings for the Cubs to claim first place by beating Connie Mack’s As 2 out of 3 games. Orvie Overall got the win in both extra inning games, including a 22 inning marathon where he pitched 12 scoreless innings to out duel Cy Morgan (who pitched 11 2/3). The win run scored on a wild pitch!

Perfect game! After the Indians went off for 13 runs in the 1st game of the series, George Mullin spins a perfect game in game 2!!!

Through 15 games, 6 of the 8 teams are within 2 games of each other as the Giants recover from a slow start to get in the mix.

Ty Cobb leads the league in hitting at .407, the one bright spot in a miserable start for the Tigers. Joe Jackson leads with 18 RBIs in just 15 games, far and away the most. He’s been knocking in Jack Graney, who has been the big surprise on the leader board with .390 average and 18 runs scored. Honus Wagner has an amazing 7 triples already!

Jack Coombs of the As is the only pitcher so far with 4 wins. Rube Marquard leads in Ks with 24, but is only 2-2 despite giving up only 7 runs (5 earned) in his 4 starts.
