Watford, (TR 3; DEF 2) played host to Liverpool, (TR 3 DEF 3), and Liverpool proved to to rude guests as they defeat the home town favorites, 1-nil. The only goal of the match came off the foot of Emre Can in the 31’ with a big assist from Oklade-Chamberlain. The fans at Vickerage Road, all 21,577 of them, had little to cheer about this opening day.
Despite the rather close score Liverpool dominated play. Liverpool had 14 shots, 7 on goal while Watford could onlymanage 4 shots with just one being on goal. Watford’s goalie, Heurelho stooped six of the seven shots and was genuinely good in net; one his was save was a spectacular diving save.
Neither team scored in the second half.

With 41,631 rabid Chelsea fans, (ok, a few Burnley fans were also there), hoping for an opening day win. They were not disappointed although it took their heroes until the 77’ to score a goal. They hung on for the 1-nil win.
Defender Gary Cahill scored after a tremendous steal by Chelsea defense. Francesc Fabregas lead a perfect pass for the assist as Cahill beat Nick Pope for the only goal of the game.
Pope was great in goal, though. Chelsea had eight shots on goal over 13 shot attempts and Pope stopped seven of the them.
Burnly controlled the first 13 minutes of the game surprisingly winning the majority of Loose Balls in the early going. As the second half wore on, however, Chelsea became more dominant. At the 75’ Burnley decided to go for the tie and brough on Defenders. The moved backfired when Cahill found the net in the 77’

26,704 Crystal Palace fans went dome from Selhurst Stadium as their home town favorites fell victim visiting Huddersfield.
Crystal Palace scored first whenYohan Cabaye beat Jonas Lossl in the 21’ with an assist Patrick van Aanholt. The half ended with Crystal Palace on top, 1-Nil.
The second half saw two goals scored, both by Huddersfield and both by Rajiv van La Parra. His first goal was unassisted at the 50’ mark and tied the match at 1-1. His second goal came in the 87’ and he was assisted by Aaron Mooy.

Everton started fast. The first three shots they took went by Stoke City Goalkeeper, Jack Butland. At the end of the first half it was 3-Nil Everton.
Wayne Rooney scored Everton’s first goal at the 12’ mark with an assist by Leighton Baines on a Corner Kick.
Four minutes later, 17 minutes in to game Idrissa Gueye scored as Rooney assisted and it was 2-Nil, Everton. At the 23’ Gylfi Sigurdsson beat Butland again with an assist from Michael Keane.
Stoke City played much better the second half, especially wnd they wen into an attack mode, but, Everton, now in a defensive posture, thwarted every challenge.

Southampton delighted the 32,505 fans at St. Mary’s Stadium as they hand visiting Swansea a 1 - Nil defeat. Forward Shane Long booted a ball past Lukasz Fabianski in the 13’ minute with an assist from Ryan Bertrand.
Southampton was actually out-shot by Swansea, 3-6; Swansea had three shots on goal but they were all turned away by Fraser Foster.

For 90 minutes this was a back and forth game. In Stoppage Time, things heated up as both team took a shot on goal, but, it was West Bromwich forward, who netted a goal with as time expired with an assist from Jonny Evans. Evans pass was oicture perfect and Rondon blasted a shot past Asmir Begovic to give West Bromwich a 1-Nil lead heading to locker room.
The second half saw more back and forth but West Bromwich made Rondon’s goal stand-up for a 1 - Nil win.
West Bromwich Gareth Barry left the game after being shaken up in the 83’; James McLean replaced Barry. The after game report was Barry suffers no lasting effects and is available for Week Two.

At Falmer Stadium the majority of Brighton fans were hopeful for a miracle as MC clearly were the favorite. MC dominated the first half, but failed to net a goal. In the second half, however, the dominance started to show.
At the 53’ markeKevin De Bruyne scored his first goal; it was unassisted. De Bruyne second goal came with an assistKyle at the 59’ market. That capped the day’s scoring as Man City blanks Brighton, 2-Nil.
Matt Ryan stopped eight shots by Manchester City, but, the writing was on the wall almost from the beginning of the game. Claudo Brave stopped all four Brighton shots that were on target. Bravo got the surprising nod to start the game over Ederson.
It was somewhat of a costly win for Manchester City. Raheem Sterling received two Yellow Cards and will be ineligible for Man C’s next game.

Tottenham put a damper on Newcastle home opener in front of 52,354 fans at St. James Stadium. The first half was spirited but neither team scored and they went to the locker locked in a scoreless match.
The second half saw all the scoring. Eric Dier took a rebound and legged a shot into the crossbar, (Special Action Chart), that bounced into the net for a 1-ni Tottenham lead at the 67’ mark. That seemed to spart Tottenhame. AT the 73’ mark Son Heung-Min took a pass from Christian Eriksen and beat Newcastle Goalie, Bob Elliot for a 2-nil Tottenhame lead.
Newcastle kept up the good fight and it paid off when Christian Atsu beat Hugo Lloris in the 87’ to cut the Tottenhame lead to 2-1. Ayoze is credited with the assist.
There was glimmer of hope for the hometown fans, but, the hope and the game faded with a Tottenham 2-1 win.

It was David vs Goliath and, like the Biblical outcome, David won. West Ham defeated Manchester United in front of 77,994 Manchester U fans. There was stunned silence after match.
Marko Arnautovic scored the first goal for West Ham after a stolen ball and a breakaway in the 8’. The crowd was silenced, but, given the time remaining Man U fans were confident of a comeback against the interlopers.
The fans were stunned once again in the 22’ mark when Michail Antonio beat David de Gea for a second West Ham goal. Still, with more than a half remaining Man U and their fans felt they could engineer a comeback; the comeback never happene and West Ham wins, 2 - Nil.

Last weeks humiliating defeat of Manchester United by West Ham was surpassed this week when Swansea accumulated their first points of the season with a 3-Nil whitewashing of Man U. Manchester United has yet to score a goal this season.
Jordan Ayew scored all three goals for Swansea. His first came at 11’ with an assist fromTom Carroll. At the 66’ mark it was Ayew again, this time beating David de Gea with an assist fromKi Sung-Yeung. Ayeu’s ;ast goal came as time expired ad 90+2, again with an assist from Carroll.
Rumor has it there could be a change at goal for Man U, or a change in tactics, or both, but, either way, it is obvious Manchester United needs to turn things around quickly.
On the flip side Lukasz Fabianski, Swansea Goalie, stopped all five shots fired by Manchester United.

Both of these teams were looking to pickup their first points of the season. Watford did it with a 1-Nil win on the road at Dean Court in front of 11,360 dejected fans.
The first half was spirited; each team took four shots. None found the net. All told Bournemouth had eight shots, but, only one was on goal and none found the back of the net.
Roberto Pereyra did find the net for Watford one minute into the secon half. His shot beat Asmir Begovic after taking a splendid pass fromJose Holebas.
Watford’s Forward, Stefan Okaka was injured in the 69’ and left the game. He was replaced by Defender, Francisco Femenia.

These two teams played a wild first six minutes of the game. The 1’ mark saw West Bromwich on the board, 1-Nil when Jay Rodriguez took a pass from Matt Phillips and then beat Burnley Goalie, Nick Pope.
The 1 Nil lead lasted exactly one minute. Burnley scored on a Corner Kick by Johann Gudmundsson to tie the match at 1-1.
At the 6’ mark Jack Cork scored a goal beating Ben Foster with Jeff Hendrick getting an assist. Cork, at 3’ , got his first Yellow Card; he scored at 6’ and received his second Yellow Card, and was out of the match at the 7’ mark. Burnly held a 2-1 lead before an exhilarated crowd at Turf Moore Stadium.
West Bromwich took advantage of being a man up and tied the game when Rodriguez scored his 2nd goal with an assist from Jose Rondon at the 30’ mark. The score was now knotted at 2-2 and both teams went to the locker rooms tied at the end of the first half.
Burnley started the second half by adding a defenseman, Kevin Long, to replace forward Chris Wood to try ad counter being a man down. Countering, West Bromwich substituted forward Jake Livermore for Defender Craig Dawson to put pressure on the out-manned Burnley Defense.
Despite the West Bromwich more aggressive formation, neither team scored in the second half and the game ended in a 2-2, each team picking up one point.

Leicester should be embarrased. In the 36’ Brighton Midfielder, Solly March, was Red Carded. In the 57’ Brighton Jose Izquierdo was also Red Carded, so, for much of the game Leicester had a two man advantage. And with that advantage, Leicester failed to score.
In part Leicester failed to score because of the tremendous Goaleeping of Brighton’s Matt Gray. Leicester had five Shots On Goal and Gray stopped all of them and caught and held-on to three of them.
So each team picked up their first Point of the season but Leicester missed out on almost certain three points.
