Dead Ball Era Championship Tournament
-
I decided to set up something different to test out the new Master Game, so I’m doing a small Tournament. The plan is each team will play each other 6 times (one series at home each). By the time I do that hopefully the bugs will be worked out :)
The participants are the greatest teams of the Dead Ball era (or my favorite ones at least)… I’m going for no players on multiple teams (So no Miracle Braves, sadly). Might be one or two I didn’t catch, but should be close :)
1906 Cubs
1909 Tigers
1911 As
1908 Pirates
1912 Giants
1913 Indians
1912 Red Sox
1913 SenatorsJust had the first game, and it was a NO HITTER by Three Finger Brown to beat the Tigers 1-0.

that is some project! So many games played! Very interesting!

This was a fun one… after starting 0-4 Walter Johnson had enough. After the Cubs took an early 2-0 lead (Johnson seemed to not have his good stuff early)… He retired the last 21 guys in a row, striking out 8, and added a solo home run, a double, and scored the go ahead run on a sac fly to lead Washington to a 4-2 win.

Back at it after the holiday… The Cubs one game 3 of the series over Washington behind 2 solo home runs (Frank Chance and Solly Hofman) Chance in 6 games has 6 extra base hits… 3 doubles, a triple and 2 homers. In the actual 1906 he had only 36 ebhs in 136 games… talk about a hot start!
Also getting a 66/11 combo twice in 2 innings? Someone check those dice!
Coming off his no hitter, Miner Brown managed to get to the 4th before giving up his first hit of the season, and went to 2-0 with his 2nd complete game
the 1906 Cubs as a team managed to go 4-2 through their first 2 series despite hitting .168
Naturally, I expect the league average to be pretty low with all the transcendent pitching seasons in this group, but that’s a bit crazy!
