@APBA-GO-Jeremy Is Clarence done rehab and ready for the big leagues yet?

@striker2550 He’s mellowed but we’re still working on making him ‘smarter’.

@APBA-GO-Jeremy Is Clarence ready for the big leagues, or still being “worked on”?
-
@striker2550 He has one more change to go in… he’s going to sacrifice no hitters and perfect games to try to score in the ninth. Then we’ll be done with it pending feedback. We’re waiting to finish up a couple more bugfixes before we deploy final (for now) Clarence.

@APBA-GO-Jeremy so tell us more about safebetbaseball. I’ve started playing it. It’s kinda ok. More features to be added? Price coming down on running simulations? I assume that is you at the top of the leader boards? You still playing?
-
Well, Clarence is coming soon to simulations as a '50s era manager. We put sound effects and some animations in. We’re working on a proposition bet layer for tournaments that will be added in Q1 2024 which should be fun and open up many more ways to win credits.
I play every day but not on the production version… accidentally clicking on an ad with my account can have dire consequences from Google so I avoid it now after learning the hard way (they are very sensitive to click fraud, apparently).
Simulation prices probably won’t come down any time soon, but starting credits, the 15 min credit refresh, and reward ad rates are probably going to go up to bring the economy into balance. It usually takes me about two days of betting to buy the cheapest sim now - and I don’t know that much about historic team performance.
It’s getting there. I’m always interested in what the community thinks of it, so please let me know.
Thanks,
Jeremy -
Well, I like it so far. But it seems very “basic”. It definitely needs more features like the ones you mentioned. I would really like to see more info on the games completed, such as a boxscore with batting and pitching stats. Just getting the score is a let down.
More “how to” in game info is needed. For example, I can’t find anything about the “super tournaments” that are mentioned. When are they scheduled, how do they work?
What got me interested was the ability to run massive game simulations and the free to play aspect. Then to find out the simulations had to be “earned” or paid for. That was a let down.
A change that I would like is that when looking at the lineup for a game, I could see both teams at once, rather than having to go back and forth.
Overall, I like it and will continue playing.
-
On safebetbaseball…I figured out how the daily tournament works. But, what is the “15 minute credit refresh” you speak of? I’m not getting that.
-
@striker2550 If you blow all your credits, you’ll get more in ~15 min.
Also, we’ve been talking about your feedback internally and we’re making some changes because of it.
For example, right now if you tap on a completed tournament in the tournament list, you can already see box scores and the play by play for that tournament. But that information isn’t accessible from your betting history, so we’re going to add it there too.
We’re also adding an info pop up to the Super Series tournament.
Thanks,
Jeremy -
I found the pbp and boxscore, that’s great! Yes, accessing it from betting history would be much easier to use.
Still would really like to see the lineups in one window when choosing teams.
Question… if someone runs a metric Boatload of simulations, will that slow down our game play on APBAGO?
Unimportant… the refresh should only give 1 or 10 coins per refresh so that players have to use proper bankroll management rather than betting it all to get a jump-start. And you personally need to play more, because I’m gonna soon pass you on the leader boards!
-
@striker2550 Ha! I played one tournament today on production and got a Grand Slam… I was very impressed with myself. ;) For some reason I have good luck with tournaments from the '40s.
Balancing the economy is going to be a challenge for sure. We’ll try a bunch of things and see what gets people playing (and, perhaps, paying).
As for simulations affecting GO performance, yes, it’s possible, but highly unlikely as the infrastructure is set to scale if certain load points are reached. We’ve done tests in our staging environment where 1000s of SBB sim games were queued up and it was unnoticeable while playing GO (and the production environment has better hardware too).
