IN The Begining League season review
-
The ITBL is an 9 team league (expanding to 10 in 1905) playing 80 games in its third season.
The Mercer County Mayhem won its 2nd straight World Series even with an ownership change mid season when founding member apbabuss99 handed the reins over to Demello23 and without missing a beat. Mercer beat Cotuit in 5 games while Marietta swept past Sandy Lake to set up a 1902 World Series rematch. 1902 Marietta took Mercer all 7 games and in 1903 the budding rivalry lived up to expectations going 6 games.
Marietta’s Bill Bradley hit 370 with 10 home runs and an all time record 122 RBIs to win the MVP. No player has
Sam Lever lead Marietta and the league with 14 wins on his way to the Pitcher of the Year
Bill Bradley set a league record with 125 hits and 21 Triples and 122 RBI’s. Fred Clarke became the first 400 hitter ever (min 200 AB) hit 409 for Cotuit and Fred Tenney scored 88 runs. While Honus Wagner lost his spot on top of the runs scored record he did steal 48 times for a new record.
Buck Freemans 11 home runs lead the league in 1903 falling 2 short of Sam Crawfords record of 13 from 1901.
