Update after 50 games. The White Sox have lost their last 4 games, one to Baltimore, and a 3 game sweep at the hands of the Yankees.

They are hanging onto first place over the second place Tigers, with the Yankees looming in 3rd place:

The White Sox and the Tigers have made a trade. The White Sox are sending Dave Philley to the Tigers and are getting Earl Torgeson in return.

Philley posted a .203/.282/.250 stat line for the Sox in 64 At Bats. Torgeson went 2 for 10 with 2 singles in 5 games of action against the Sox.

Seven more games in the books for the White Sox. They split a 4-game series with the Senators, and took 2 of 3 from the Orioles.

The Sox Remain 2 games off their 1957 pace:

One player that will not be with the team to take on the Yankees is Sherm Lollar. The Sox placed Lollar on the DL. Sherm has posted a rather pedestrian slash line of .220/.313/.302 for Chicago so far, but he has been solid behind the plate. In his absence, the Sox will turn to a combination of Earl Battey (.200/.300.314) and Les Moss(.143/.143/.286)

The White Sox finished the month of June on a tear. They are 11-1 in their last 12 games. After taking 3 of 4 from the Yankees, they swept 4-game sets from both the Red Sox and the Senators.

The hot streak has put the Sox 3 games ahead of their 1957 pace:

    0_1588474394228_be32d207-76ef-4be4-8c6d-f96b5d33d7ff-image.png

They lead the 2nd place Yankees by six games:

Another 13 games in the books for the White Sox, and they went 8-5 over those games.

    Tigers: 1-1
    Royals: 2-1
    Indians: 2-2
    Senators: 2-1
    Yankees: 2-0

The Sox continue to own the Yankees. The Sox have won 10 games against New York, while losing only 4.

At this point in 1957, the White Sox trailed the Yankees by 3 games in the standings:

    0_1588942763531_732f9d30-74e1-4cc7-bde0-b7cc995de436-image.png

But in the replay, they hold a 5-game lead over New York:

The Sox wrapped up their road trip with a 3-game sweep of the Red Sox. Their first series back home did not go as well, as they lost 2 of 3 to the Kansas City A’s.

    0_1589540739745_4ee11880-ddc7-4dde-97fc-e978f7fdcb8d-image.png

The Sox maintain a 4 game lead on the Yankees:

Chicago made another roster move during the Kansas City Series. Earl Battey was sent down to the Minors, and Jim Hughes was purchased from the Cubs, to take his roster spot.

    Battey’s season stat comparison:
    0_1589541011503_470f2592-97b9-4e3f-a48d-1511b988d953-image.png

Hughes went 7-6 with a 3.95 ERA in 66 innings of relief work with the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League. This will be Hughes’ first appearance in the American League, having seen action in parts of 5 National League seasons for the Dodgers and Cubs.

The Sox host the Tigers for 4 games before heading back out on the road to Cleveland.
