PH Error - Malcolm
-
Just played a game between a 2019 Phils custom team and the 2019 Bosox. Malcolm pinch hit for Eduardo Rodriguez in the top of the seventh - even thought he was working on a no-hitter against the pathetic Phillies. Then the game paused as Malcolm seemed to be having trouble selecting a pinch-hitter. After a re-boot the narrative announced not one, not two, but three pinch-hitters: Gorkys Hernandez, Steve Pearce, and Dustin Pedroia. And, incredibly, they each got to bat, in sequence, all out of the nine-hole. (I would attach the box score if I knew how; but it lists each as having batted, before listing the reliever - Josh Taylor - who came into the game to pitch.) The Phils ended up scoring in the ninth to break up the no-hitter against Brandon Workman. WTF?
Incredibly, I have seen a no-hitter live (Wilson Alvarez of the White Sox against the Orioles at Memorial stadium in 1991), but none yet in the course of thousands of APBA games with the basic game, computer game, and now APBA GO.
There seem to be lots of flaws in the Malcolm program. I have noticed that he repeatedly fails to bat the best pinch-hitter in critical situations, and makes odd substitutions. Nothing like the advanced brains from the computer game. APBA GO is far short of the sophistication of the computer game in terms of strategy, and lacks the ability to update stats on the fly in the game. Alas, I have a Mac and am forced to rely on APBA GO since I cannot play the computer version on my computer. When will APBA introduce an Apple version of the computer game??

Here is the boxscore for the game referenced in my comment.

And today, an even worse AI error from Malcolm. With Jameson Taillon working on a no-hitter against the Phillies in a scoreless game, Malcolm pinch-hits Steve Baron (Steve Baron??) in the top of the 6th. Baron strikes out. Then, with Josh Bell batting in the 7th inning and Starling Marte on second, the program freezes. After a few minutes, I try to refresh, and the field goes blank. Then, it reappears, only to indicate in the narrative that Bell has batted three times - three dice roles. The first was a 41, leading to an injury for Marte. The next was a hit. The last was an out. Apparently only the last one counted in the game. But the box score (attached) includes all three Bell results. Note that he is listed as having 6 AB in the game.
So, to summarize, the micromanager pulls a pitcher working on a no-hitter, which should not happen, not in the sixth inning of a scoreless game with no one on base. Then, the pinch-hitter is one of the worst bench players available. And then the weird glitch of batting a single player three times in succession, three results. Only one result entered in the game play, but all three recorded in the boxscore (as well as substitutes for the injured player, who stayed in the game). Until these repeated lapses can be patched, I am going to play in solitaire mode.

I have not used Malcolm since the solitaire mode was introduced a while back. There’s much less gnashing of teeth.
